The Cultural Foundation Brings Film Back with Al Janahi

Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation, the internationally acclaimed cultural landmark of the UAE, has launched the Moving Image Program, which was developed in collaboration with Nawaf Al Janahi.

The yearlong program includes diverse aspects, including monthly screenings in different genre from the Arab region and the world, themed film showcases, and a series of talks and workshops on the craft of filmmaking.

The first three titles Al Janahi selected to launch the program are: “Sharp Tools” (22 Feb 2020), “It Must Be Heaven” (20 Mar 2020), and “You Will Die at Twenty” (27 Mar 2020). All films will be presented with English subtitles. You can get your tickets at the box office on site, or online through the website of the Cultural Foundation.

Nawaf Al Janahi Gives Two Talks at SIFF

Invited by Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth, which runs from 13 to 18 October 2019, Nawaf Al Janahi will give two essential talks to the participants.

Emirati Cinema Facts: an overview of how the film movement started in the United Arab Emirates and some known and unknown facts of Emirati cinema. This session is scheduled on 17 October at 20:00.

Film Aesthetics: an intro to key elements of how to understand films and appreciate the craft of cinema. This session is scheduled on 18 October 2019 at 17:00.

Sea Shadow Goes to Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Invited by Bibliotheca Alexandrina, “Sea Shadow” goes to a new city, Alexandria (Egypt), where it will be screened at this unique cultural landmark on Sunday 27 October 2019, at 19:00, part of the Sunday Cinema program. Admission is free for the public and the screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Nawaf Al Janahi.

Maitha Abdalla Collaborates with Nawaf Al Janahi in Hollowed

Emirati artist Maitha Abdalla collaborated with Nawaf Al Janahi in her exhibition “Hollowed”, in which she investigates the concept of hollowness as a place or a feeling of emptiness that is devoid of any real worth or value through a series of video and sculptural artworks set in a surreal deconstructed space. Al Janahi produced the video part, and created the still photographs. The exhibition opens at Warehouse 421 in Abu Dhabi on 14 September 2019 and will run till 13 October 2019. Invited to the class of Cinema in the Arab World, Nawaf Al Janahi gave a talk today at UAE University about the history and current reality of Emirati cinema to more than 30 girls who are all enrolled in the Minor of Film Studies.
