    Nawaf Al Janahi Talks Emirati Cinema at Arab Media Summit

    Part of the 23rd edition of the Arab Media Summit which will run from 26 to 28 May 2025 in Dubai (UAE), Nawaf Al Janahi will join a panel discussion about Emirati cinema aiming to explore the personal realities and industry challenges of Emirati filmmakers, especially those who have been pioneers in the field. The conversation will focus on identity, boundaries, infrastructure, and the future of Emirati storytelling.     Nawaf Al Janahi Talks Arabic Culture and AI at Arabian Days Festival

    Invited by the second edition of Arabian Days Festival, Nawaf Al Janahi will join a panel discussion titled “Arabic Culture and Artificial Intelligence: From Heritage Preservation to Creativity Enhancement”, which will take place on 15 December 2024 at 17:00 (UAE) at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi.

    Moderated by Hanan Al Darmaki, an assistant professor at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, the session includes speakers Abdallah Abushmaes, the head of Language Research and Studies Unit at Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, and Bashar Alhafni, a researcher in AI and natural language processing.

    Nawaf Al Janahi Presents Making Short Films Workshop in Egypt

    Bibliotheca Alexandrina is bringing Nawaf Al Janahi’s workshop Making Short Films to Egypt for the first time, to be held at its headquarters from 18 to 21 August 2024.

    This intensive workshop (which Al Janahi gave previously in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Manama, Dammam, and Riyadh) focuses on the journey of making a short film, covering the creative and professional aspects, from choosing an idea to exhibition, and all stages in between. Participants will learn how to establish and enhance a solid cinematic understanding built on the foundation of film theory and aesthetics, and will come closer to some essential career secrets and best practices on the ground.

    Registration for this workshop is open to individuals from all nationalities, and prior film knowledge is not required, While sessions will be given in Arabic, a good command of English is a plus. For more information and registration, click here.

    Invited by the fourth edition of Gulf Cinema Festival (formerly GCC Film Festival), which will run from 14 to 18 April 2024 in Riyadh, KSA, Nawaf Al Janahi will be a guest speaker along with Khalid Al Zadjali and Zeyad Al Husaini in panel discussion moderated by Ahmed Al Ayyad that will focus on the future of cinema in the Arabian Gulf.     Organized by Bahrain Cinema Club, Nawaf Al Janahi will be giving his workshop Making Short Films in Manama, Bahrain, from 21 to 23 April 2024.

    [UPDATE, 18 April 2024: Due to exceptional weather conditions, the workshop has been postponed. The new dates are from 19 to 21 May 2024.]

    This intensive three-day workshop (which comes to Manama for the first time after Al Janahi gave it previously in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Dammam, and Riyadh) focuses on the journey of making a short film, covering the creative and professional aspects, from choosing an idea to exhibition, and all stages in between. Sessions will be conducted in English, and registration is open to all nationalities. Prior filmmaking experience is preferred but not required.     Emirates Airline Festival of Literature Hosts Nawaf Al Janahi

    Invited by Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Nawaf Al Janahi will participate in the official program of the 16th edition which will run from 31 January to 6 February 2024 in Dubai, UAE. On the second day of the festival, he will participate along with Nujoom Al Ghanem in a panel discussion moderated by Hind Mezaina that will dive into why cinema matters. Afterwards, he will present a special screening of Arab short films part of Black Box Cinema roadshow leading to its 7th edition. Both sessions will take place in the evening of 1 February 2024. Additionally, in the morning of third day, Al Janahi will join the jury of Al Futtaim Digital Storytelling Competition, which is designed to encourage teenagers to create short films based on pieces of literature.     Black Box Cinema Starts Roadshow Leading to Its 7th Edition

    Leading to its 7th edition, Black Box Cinema’s 2024 roadshow will head to different cities to present a selection of Arab short films from its past editions to give those who couldn’t attend before a taste of what they have missed and encourage them to attend the upcoming editions. The program will present “Big Day” by Ahmed Samir, “Liter of Gas” by Ibrahim Ramy, “Long Trip” by Ali Kadhum, “This World Is Wonderful” by Hmoud Faris, and “Unveiling Selma” by Mariam Al Serkal and Maaria Sayed.     Black Box Cinema Announces Call for Film Submissions

    4 September 2023

    Black Box Cinema, one of the most attended film showcases in the UAE, is now accepting short film submissions for its 7th edition which will be held at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair from 29 April to 5 May 2024.

    Founded by Nawaf Al Janahi, Black Box Cinema is focused on presenting Arab short films, spreading film culture in new circles, and giving different audiences the chance to come closer to Arab cinema.

    A landmark at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair since 2014, Black Box Cinema screened in its past 6 editions a total of 106 short films to more than 11,500 viewers, and achieved a traffic of nearly 70,000 people.
